Skateboard Party SuppliesYou can start by compiling a stack of your kid’s favorite skateboarding photographs. These can be used to decorated the space where the party is being held, as placeholders for a table, and in number of ways. The same can be done with skateboard supplies, like wheels and boards. Think about inventive ways to integrate special aspects of the activity into the party and its planning and preparation. Following are some common steps in planning and holding parties, and ways in which you can integrate skateboard party supplies into the process. Start with the list of invitees. The size of the list will help you determine your overall budget and thus how much you can allocate to buy the supplies that will link up to the skateboard theme. Once you have the list, you can begin by creating the invitations. Invitations can be made out of paper skateboard cut outs, for example. There are a lot of different creative ways to create skateboard cards. Think about using buttons for the wheels, or round candies, like red hots. Details should include the occasion of the party, the date, and time, and what if any instructions you wish to provide about gift giving. You will also want to provide RSVP information. Or you can take a different skateboard action photograph and hand write the details of the party on to the photograph, before folding it and putting it in an envelope for mailing. Whatever choice you make, let kids know through the invitation what if any actual skateboard activities you plan to hold during the party, and whether they should bring their boards to the party. Skateboard parties don’t have to include actual skateboarding, but some do, and are held at special facilities designed for skateboarding, or at parks where skateboarding is allowed. If you plan to go this route, just make sure that there is a backup plan if the weather makes skateboarding impossible. And if outdoors, make sure to plan whether you want to add music to the equation. If a public park or space, think about any issues that might come up with music that gets to loud for the comfort of others around. Once you have the place for the party, you want to think about how to decorate the space for the party. Again, photographs are very useful in bringing the theme into a room in the house, if that’s where the party is being held. If you plan an outdoor party, there are specially made balloon and streamers with skateboarding themes that can be used to help people get in the spirit. At the party itself, think about how to integrate the theme in to all the various parts of a typical party. Some of the things to think about are plates, cups, silverware, table cloths. Cakes can always be made to represent the theme as well. Your local cake maker can give you ideas, but skateboard cakes are not uncommon at these types of parties. The theme can carry through to food and drinks for the party as well. Think about the foods and drinks associated with skateboarding and you are half way there. For example, energy drinks are often associated with skateboarding and other extreme sports. So, including a small amount of these drinks will help support the theme and the fun. These drinks are not made to be consumed in large quantities by children, so limit the intake, or think about adding them alongside fruit juice and water. The food is simple and is not unlike food common to most kids’ parties. Hot dogs and hamburgers are always stars. And if you want to get fun and fancy, use the hamburgers as wheels and the hot dogs are boards and combine them into skateboards on the table. If you do plan for skateboarding, think about different skateboarding competitions or ways of organizing the skateboarding so that everyone can participate and enjoy that part of the party. You can get small “trophies” out of cupcakes with skateboards on them, or get special ribbons for the occasion as well. These can be handed for winners of skateboard races. Just bear in mind that skateboarding does carry special risks, so if you plan a lot these activities, consider how you will have enough parental supervision, and other things you will need to do to keep the event safe for everyone. There are also games that can be devised, which are variations of other games, such as musical skateboards or “pin the wheel on the skateboard.” You can also consider hanging a skateboard piñata. You can also think about getting kits for everyone so that they can paint their own boards, or create new ones. There are Skateboard Design Kits available on the market for this activity; they are available by searching online and many gift and party stores also carry them. If you are not planning outdoor skating events, or the weather does not permit it, you can always plan to view movies that have skateboarding as a major component, or show DVDs of skateboard competitions. Parties often include favors for the attendees to take home with them as a keepsake from the event. Sometimes these are baked goods, and sometimes they are practical items that carry the theme. You can get miniature skateboards and paint the name of the child on the board. Or you can get miniaturized versions of skateboard key chains or wristbands. Kids everywhere have longed loved skateboarding and many kids and parents alike have fun designing parties around the theme of skateboarding. Again, make sure the party is planned with safety in mind, and think about new and inventive ways to integrate the theme into all aspects of the party and you are bound to create a party that stays with all the attendees for years to come. |
